Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
If you currently have medical insurance, it’s important to keep in mind that dental insurance doesn’t really operate in the same way. For example, the bulk of your medical benefits are designed to cover true emergency costs, while dental insurance is much more prevention-focused in nature. By paying for routine dental checkups, cleanings, necessary X-rays, and more, the goal is to help you avoid dental problems in the first place by catching them early on.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
It’s important to keep in mind that every dental insurance plan is different, and you should confirm available benefits with your provider before agreeing to treatment. However, most PPO plans follow a structure that’s very similar to the one below:
-
Preventive Care – Essential preventive services like checkups and cleanings typically receive full coverage. X-rays are likely to fall under this category as well if they are for diagnostic purposes.
-
Minor Restorative Care – Tooth-colored fillings and root canal therapy are usually classified as “minor” restorative care, which means that they receive partial benefits of anywhere from 70% to 80% of the total cost.
-
Tooth-colored fillings and root canal therapy are usually included in this category and receive between 70% and 80% coverage.
-
Major Restorative Care – If you’re in need of a substantial restoration like a denture, bridge, or crown, these procedures typically have around 50% to 60% of their cost covered by insurance benefits.
Orthodontic treatment also typically receives at least partial benefits if it’s deemed medically necessary.
Our In-Network PPO Dental Insurance Providers
At Midtown Family Dentistry of Dallas, we’re happy to be in-network with most PPO dental insurances. By doing so, we enjoy making important oral healthcare more financially manageable for individuals and families in need. These covered plans include the following:
By being in-network, we’ve agreed to accept pre-determined fees for a wide range of different services. Typically, these fees are lower than what you would expect to pay when visiting a dental office that is out-of-network with your dental insurance. Additionally, we’re one of the few dental offices in Dallas that accept Medicaid and CHIP benefits for patients under the age of 18! This approach is just part of our commitment to compassionate, patient-driven care here in DFW.
